“Let Him kiss me with the kisses of His mouth (Word )~ for Your love is more delightful than wine.” SOS 1:2 A kiss is an intimate display of affection. It is reserved for only the one who has your heart. The invitation in this verse is from the bride who desires to receive the kiss of intimacy of her lover. This book of Song of Songs can be interpreted in natural love of a husband and a wife, but I believe a deeper level of meaning in this song is the call for partnership from Jesus, the Bride-groom King to the church, His bride. And the opening of this book is the invitation for intimacy. I have been on a journey with Jesus to let the language of this song be imparted into my heart, so it would affect my prayer life, my thought life~ my identity of who I am as His beloved. My highest desire is to see the Kingdom of God through the eyes of a bride. His love and affection for me, as His bride, will transform my heart; that I would live in such a way that the FIRE of His Holy love would not die or be quenched in my own heart. To declare that His love is greater than any other thing! Jesus is more satisfying. Jesus is more captivating. Jesus is more beautiful. Jesus is more enjoyable than anything else! And He loves me! No one can fill the void in my heart but Him. From this verse, the principle for understanding is this “kiss of His Word”. It is the invitation to the deeper things of God. My spirit is tenderized by His Word. Asking for the Word of God reveals more of the love God has for me. As we look at the “kiss”, it is not a kiss in the natural, but it is a call to intimacy that comes from the mouth of God. “…man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord,” Deut. 8:3. The Word of God is a well that does not run dry and it touches the deepest part of me. Lord, awaken love in me. Speak Your Words over my heart. I want a heart that is fully in love with You.
For you: Let this be a declaration even if your heart doesn’t feel it, because it is true in the spirit. The body, mind and will eventually align with what the spirit is speaking. Turn your “legal” standing with Jesus into a holy affection of your heart. I John 4:19 tells us, “We love Him because He first loved us.” The bride cries out for the kisses of her lover, because His love for her is safe, secure, and perfect. She can trust His love. How can you nourish this bridal love in your relationship with Jesus? Ask Jesus to awaken love in your heart. Be intentional about time with Him in your daily life. Make Him a top priority in your day; set aside moments to be quiet and listen to what He wants to speak to you. Declare: Jesus your love is more delightful than any other thing.
