In these 5 verses of chapter 4, Jesus speaks on 8 aspects of the bride's life. Every phrase is a poetic divine romance that aims at the heart in a specific way. These 8 virtues are reflections of the Lord's beauty imparted to us and they make Jesus glad as we love Him in these ways. These 8 virtues will make our hearts glad too. Jesus began in verse 1 with "How beautiful you are my darling! Oh how beautiful." Jesus is calling those things that are not as though they are~ releasing confidence to the bride. The terms He uses are in language of agriculture that the Shulamite is familiar with since she tended goats and kept vineyards. Each of these symbols is interpreted in Scripture. Always go to the Word to figure out what the Word says. "You have dove's eyes behind your veil," SoS 4:1
"Your hair is like a flock of goats, going down from Mount Gilead," SoS 4:1
"Your teeth are like a flock of shorn sheep, which have come up from the washing, every one of which bears twins, and none is barren among them," SoS 4:2
"Your lips are like a strand of scarlet..." SoS 4:3a
"Your mouth is lovely..." SoS 4:3b
"Your temples behind your veil are like a piece of pomegranate..." SoS 4:3c
"Your neck is like the tower of David, built for an armory, on which hangs a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men..." SoS 4:4
"Your two breasts are like two fawns, twins of a gazelle, which feed among the lilies..." SoS 4:5
Jesus tells His bride, "You are all fair (beautiful), My love, there is no flaw in you," SoS 4:7. He has called her beautiful/fair 8 times already in this song. In Jesus' eyes, she is ALTOGETHER LOVELY. Seeing how JESUS sees us determines how we think and feel about ourselves!!!!
