Last week I wrote about SETTING GOALS as part of the FOCUS for the year…… this is part 2 of FOCUS and the focus is MISSION. Our family has been using mission statements for over 10 years to keep us focused for the year.
We find our mission statement in different ways each year: One year it was a phrase from a movie; a couple years ago it was from a “hallmark” ad in a magazine; and last year it was a Scripture. Each year, I write a personal mission and then our family has a mission statement together. This coming year (for 2014), the Lord was speaking to me about CELEBRATING ~ to take this year and celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, holidays~ making joyous occasions of special days in our life! That is my personal mission statement. After setting my heart on CELEBRATE as my mission focus, I came across a website and blog called “My One Word”, which is a site dedicated to New Year’s Resolutions as being a “one word” theme. My challenge to you is to have ONE WORD for your mission statement for 2014. Here are a few questions to help you FOCUS on what that word is to be: 1) What kind of person do you want to be at the end of this year? What changes do you want to see? 2) Identify major characteristics; what are the qualities you see? 3) There may be many qualities that you would like to develop or improve, but ask the Lord to highlight ONE quality that He wants you to cultivate this year. Just ONE WORD. Examples: peace, kindness, joy, dream, simplify, love, etc. 4) Let this ONE WORD be the focus for your mission statement for the year….. What will your ONE WORD mission statement be for 2014?
