![]() When our children were younger, every year Greg and I would choose a word, phrase or Scripture that would be the leading framework for our family during that year. This would be our mission statement. We had the kids set one or two goals that they wanted to accomplish and the mission statement and goals went up on the fridge and it remained there for the entire year. This way, we kept the mission and goals before us~ every time one of us opened the refrigerator, there it was, reminding us of the mission for our family and the goals each person set. It was accountability and encouragement! A mission statement is like a plan; a plan that helps you to arrive at a destination and focus on the priorities that align with the mission. It changes or adjusts the way you live….giving you FOCUS. The goal is to be "on course" 80% of the time, so when you get off-track, you adjust and get back on mission. Now that the kids are all young adults, we have shifted the way to do the mission statement each year. Each person picks a WORD or PHRASE that will be their framework for the year. The picture in this blog is each of our family's one word or a phrase for last year. How can you find your word or phrase? I have several questions to help you choose your one word or phrase for your 2017 mission statement:
The Lord may use a road sign, movie, book, dream, etc to spark something in your spirit that is to be your mission for the year. Spend some time seeking the Lord for the mission statement. On the next blog, I will share some ways to keep the mission statement before you throughout the year.
