Change Your Mind:40 Days to Renew Your Thought Life Introduction
Beginning Wednesday, March 6--Saturday, April 20 (excluding Sundays), I want to invite you to embark on a 40 day journey of discovering your inner world, beginning to change your mind about your thought life. It is time you think about what you are thinking about. If you want to receive the Change Your Mind devos in your inbox for the 40 days of Lent, subscribe to my email.
My journey of renewing my thought life began over 30 years ago. I can remember it all like it was yesterday. I was with a couple girlfriends doing a Bible Study and as we were reading and meditating on truths from Scripture, the Lord began rewiring some of the tapes in my thought life. I asked the Holy Spirit to reveal to me what I was believing that was a lie or what was stuck in my thinking that wasn't a God-thought about me. He used the Word of God to shift my thought life. It wasn't immediate but I did the hard work. I wrote out truths from Scripture, written as though God was speaking them into my heart. I had note cards everywhere, taped on my fridge, my mirrors, in my car, by my bed. I was determined to think about myself the way God thought about me. And to think about my marriage the way God thought about my marriage. Greg and I had a very rough start which lasted 10 years, but I aligned my thinking to what heaven spoke about my life with my husband, Greg. I didn't give up and I fought with my mind, heart and speech for my marriage. I changed some people in my inner circle, because I only wanted people around me who would believe with me for God's best!
I realize what a beautiful gift the Holy Spirit gave me, at such a young age to think and speak from God's point of view. I have been on a journey with the Holy Spirit teaching me how to think not only about myself and my marriage, but about my parenting (how to think about my children), my relationships, and my circumstances. Early on, there weren't many preachers or teachers speaking on thought life. I remember watching Joyce Meyers one afternoon while I was ironing. She was preaching on words and I thought, "She is speaking my new language". :) As my mind was being renewed (and it continues to be) my speech, actions and belief system changed.
Set your heart to invest in the hard work of realigning your mind. This is a worthy endeavor. I use this quote from Bill Johnson (Bethel Church, Redding, CA) often, “I cannot afford to have a thought in my head about me that Jesus doesn’t have in His head about me.” Our minds must be transformed from the earthly, practical, natural thinking to heavenly, belief, faith-filled thinking. Your challenge is to accept the eternal, infinite rule of God over your thought life!
Change your mind, change your life.
