What are you circling? What promises are you praying and believing the Lord for? HOW YOU CARRY THAT WORD or PROMISE MATTERS GREATLY.
The Lord has taken me on a journey over the last several years to carry the words or promises that I’m believing Him for. I’m guarding the words and trusting God to be faithful to His promises. I want to share a few things that I have learned and am continuing to learn. I’m going to use my daughter, Lindsay, as my tangible example, along with those in Scripture who have carried a word or a promise. In this first of several blogs on this theme, I’m going to share the first KEY WORD that matters in carrying a promise/word: ABIDING. Jesus, in talking with the disciples (John15) is calling them to greater intimacy. He desires relationship with you and me. When you plant yourself in the secret place to hear from Jesus, He will speak to you. In Jesus’ opening “sermon” (Sermon on the Mount), He spoke of the necessity to be alone with God~ to shut out all other distractions, turning attention to God’s Voice. The amazing promise of God to us, is that HE IS PRESENT! “When you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you,” Matthew 6:6. In that place of intimacy, invite the Spirit of God to speak into every area of your life: family, finances, occupation, heart-issues, relationships, etc. We want to hear from heaven for every area. This is where promises and words are given. He loves to speak to us and share His heart with us. Engage with the Lord in the place of abiding (dwelling; to settle in). I want you to think about words or promises (can be from Scripture or from the Voice of the Lord). When you are pregnant with a word from the Lord, it might be months, years or decades before the word come full term and you can deliver it, but you have a responsibility to carry that word until then. Let’s look at Hannah. I Samuel 1 gives us a part of Hannah’s story. We are told of her deep anguish and desire for a child. She enters the temple weeping and downcast, desperately crying out to the Lord for a son. Eli saw her and after a misunderstanding (on his part) recognizes her desperate cry to the Lord. Eli gave her what she needed~ a word from the Lord, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant your petition which you have asked of Him” (verse 17). After receiving this word from Eli, Hannah got up and shifted her focus, “Then she went her way and ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.” (vs 18) Notice, she hadn’t received a child…she received a WORD about having a child. Nothing changed for her physically, but a word from God changed everything. She was now “pregnant” with a promise from the Lord. Hannah got up and began to carry that Word. My daughter, Lindsay just had a baby last month. She and Jeff were excited to believe that the Lord would give them another baby. When Lindsay took the pregnancy test many months ago and she saw the + sign, and knew she was pregnant, everything in her life changed! She was pregnant with a promise of a child. She hadn’t received a child, she received a WORD about having a child, in the form of a + sign on a stick. Nothing changed for her physically yet, but that WORD changed everything in her life! She got up and began to carry that word! Many times we’re pressing in for things, and the Lord doesn’t give us what we are asking for at first. Instead He gives us a word. To carry a word or promise is to have faith in the One who is able to deliver on the promise/word. Asking what you desire and seeing God do it for you is called faith. Faith gets an answer from God, but it is connected to something~ the words of Christ abiding in you. Jesus said in John 15:7, “If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it shall be done for you.” “Words” In this verse is the Greek word, RHEMA, which means, “that which is or has been uttered by the living voice.” The Words of Jesus include what He has said in the Word of God and what He is saying (as you hear from Him in the secret place). Drawing near to Jesus and hearing Him (faith comes by hearing~ Romans 10:17) and holding & keeping His words at all times, allowing them to abide in us gives us access to the realm of faith. Carrying His Words is what shapes our desires and our prayers so we get answers from God. The first KEY WORD in carrying a promise/word from the Lord well is ABIDE. Abide in Christ, let His Words abide in you. Today, write out those words or promises that are abiding in your spirit. Take them with you into the secret place and pray through them. Part 2 of this blog series will be focused on the KEY WORD: AGREEMENT.
